Reports indicate United States closing in on Copa America 2028

According to Larry Henry Jr. of SBI Soccer, along with multiple other rumors and reports, Copa America could indeed return to the United States in 2028. This would be the third time in the last five Copas that the US would play host.
Adam Crafton of The Athletic reported that talks were ongoing for the US to play host for a second consecutive tournament at the end of 2025. CONMEBOL and CONCACAF jointly announced the US as the host nation for the 2024 Copa America in January of 2023, so a formal announcement one way or the other should be coming soon.
If the US gets formally announced as the host for the 2028 tournament, there will be another massive "Summer of Soccer" coming to the States, as Los Angeles will also be the host for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
Recent reports also indicate that 16 teams could be set to participate in the tournament, but that the field could be expanded to 20. In 2024, Copa America was a joint 16-team CONMEBOL and CONCACAF tournament.
Based on the 2024 Copa America schedule, it would likely mean these two tournaments would be played in the US back-to-back and international soccer stateside for nearly all of June and July.
If the US hosts Copa America in 2028, the Southeast could be a hotbed for international soccer once again, as Charlotte, Atlanta, Orlando, and Miami were all host cities in 2024, and Nashville is already set as a host city for the 2028 Summer Olympics.
