The summer is the heart of the MLS season, but for European clubs, it is a time to reload their teams with exciting transfers.

While the prospect of MLS players moving on to bigger and better things in Europe is exciting, it is always a shame to lose your most considerable talents in the middle of the schedule.

Charlotte FC has a couple of players that may pique the interest of teams across the ocean. It’s always better to be prepared than to be surprised, so let’s look at some talents that may depart the club in the upcoming transfer window:

Patrick Agyemang:

While Agyemang’s season for Charlotte FC hasn’t been mind-blowing, he still leads the team in goals with six.

What will garner attention is his now consistent playing time with the USMNT. The scouts across America regard him as a highly talented player, as reflected in his starts for his country.

There will always be a larger number of scouts watching an international game than an MLS game, so the more he plays, the more teams will begin to show interest in him.

In February, Tom Bogert reported that multiple Championship clubs made bids for Agyemang, including a $4 million offer from Luton Town, but they were rejected.

Pat has also reportedly received interest from Belgian club KAA Gent, but nothing materialized as of yet.

I could see a Championship side or low-table Italian side swooping in and making a larger bid for Agyemang, depending on how his performance improves or regresses over the summer.

Adilson Malanda

Malanda is one of the highest-potential center-backs in the MLS. At just 23 years old, the Frenchman has shown quality defensively and quality in possession.

While May was a tough month for Malanda and the entire back four, he remains a player who has attracted considerable interest from European clubs.

The latest club to show interest is Dutch club PSV, which is looking to replace Oliver Boscagli.

The Eindhoven-based club has shown interest in Malanda for some time, likely due to PSV’s director of recruitment, Thomas Schaling, being the former Scouting Director of Charlotte FC.

On the French side, AS Saint-Étienne showed interest in Malanda in 2024; the talented defender has drawn interest from teams across Europe.

For the deal to be completed, the MLS defender transfer record of $8 million would likely need to be broken. Charlotte has rejected bids of $5 million to $ 6 million.

A move to Europe would be an excellent step for Malanda and a significant loss for Charlotte FC. It has been demonstrated that the club's defensive depth does not meet the highest standard.

Pep Biel

With the season that Pep Biel is having, it's hard for teams not to show interest. Biel’s loan with Charlotte ends on August 1st.

The front office’s number one priority should be trying to get Biel to continue his time with Charlotte FC after that loan expires. Without the Spaniard, the attack would lose its most important player.

Iuri Tavares

Tavares has been relegated to a very infrequent substitute player for Charlotte FC. Over the summer, he will likely seek to move to a place where he can secure playing time.

This could be a loan for Tavares to prove himself and then return to Charlotte FC to reclaim a more regular spot in the starting 11, or a permanent transfer for Tavares to start fresh with a new team.

I could see a lower-division Portuguese team acquiring him for a low price. Tavares can be a solid player and deserves more chances to prove himself for Charlotte, but with the arrival of Wilfried Zaha, who often plays the full 90 minutes, it's hard for any left winger to thrive.

Who would be hardest to replace?

  • Adilson Malanda

  • Patrick Agyemang

  • Pep Biel

  • Iuri Tavares
