Charlotte FC dropped points in an away match against Philadelphia Union that ended 2-2. The Crown held the lead 2-1 briefly, but conceded the equalizer in the 73rd minute, just 11 minutes after taking the lead. Even with the result, Charlotte still remains just one point back of a top four spot in the Eastern Conference.
Here’s a look at our stock up, stock down for Charlotte FC’s draw against Philadelphia on the road:
Stock Up
Idan Toklomati - Toklomati just keeps scoring and now holds the Charlotte FC record for the most goals in a MLS season. Over his last three games he has notched four goals and two assists, catching fire at the perfect time with just four games remaining in the regular season.
Rodolfo Aloko - Aloko started on the wing opposite of Maxi, replacing Abada, who started midweek. He was subbed out in the 90th minute, making it the most minutes he’s played in a match so far this season. The Benin international scored shortly after the halftime break to make the score 1-1. He was involved in all aspects of the game, successfully completing 3/6 dribbles, going 1/1 on accurate long balls, recorded three tackles, and went 7/19 in duels. With more performances like this one he could solidify himself as the first choice right winger.
Djibril Diani - Coming off a game where the entire midfield struggled midweek, the lineup was changed and Diani was inserted into the starting lineup. Before being subbed off in the 83rd minute, Diani was a positive presence on the pitch, going 21/25 on accurate passes and 1/1 on successful dribbles on his 39 touches. Defensively he also made a positive impact, recording two tackles, two blocks, three clearances, an interception, two recoveries, was only dribbled past once, and went 5/8 in duels.
Stock Down
Liel Abada - Abada came on as a late sub in the 83rd minute, replacing Maxi. His short appearance wasn’t a poor performance, but wasn’t anything to write home about. He went 6/6 on accurate passes, including an accurate long ball. He also got dispossessed once on his ten touches and failed to win either of his duels. Abada not making much of a difference in his showing combined with Aloko impressing in his start could lead to Abada getting fewer minutes for the remainder of the season.
