5 things to know about Bank of America Stadium renovations

Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium is preparing for the most significant overhaul in its 30-year history, launching a multi-year, $1.3 billion renovation designed to modernize the venue while preserving its iconic footprint in Uptown.

The project, led by Tepper Sports and Entertainment (TSE) in partnership with the City of Charlotte, promises sweeping upgrades for Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC fans, as well as for the thousands who attend concerts and major events each year.

Here are five things you need to know about the planned renovations:

1. Renovations to start in 2026/2027

City leaders approved $650 million in hospitality-funded public investment, paired with more than $688 million from TSE.

Per TSE's announcement, the City's investment does not require any new or increased taxes, and the restricted funds invested cannot be used for other city functions, such as transit, education, affordable housing, or public education.

The stadium's construction will be phased to ensure the stadium remains fully operational for the NFL and MLS seasons.

Major interior work is expected to begin in 2026, with large-scale fan-facing improvements rolling out in 2027.

TSE reports that the timeline is under review by the Charlotte City Council and that no exact estimate is available yet.

2. Changes are supporter-centered

The renovation focuses heavily on improving the fan experience throughout the stadium. From brand-new seating across the bowl to expanded concourses, the plan focuses on enhancing the overall supporter experience.

Other upgrades include new social spaces, including a skyline-view patio on the 500 level, which will give fans more room to gather, eat, and enjoy the stadium beyond their seats.

Technology upgrades are also central to the redesign. Fans can expect new video boards, exterior LED displays, and a state-of-the-art sound system to elevate both game days and live entertainment.

3. New entertainment venue

One of the most notable additions is the new 4,400-seat entertainment venue adjacent to the stadium.

This facility is expected to host concerts, community events, and premium experiences tied to the Panthers and Charlotte FC games.

TSE officials say that the venue will help transform the stadium district into a year-round destination rather than a single-purpose sports complex.

4. New immersive experience

As part of their larger announcement, TSE announced plans for a privately funded Immersive Experience Center to open in 2026 at Legacy Union.

The center will feature holograms, interactive displays, a detailed stadium model, and replicas of new club spaces.

Fans will be able to preview renovation plans, explore seating options, and learn about the history of both franchises.

5. Economic impact

City officials and TSE leadership have emphasized the stadium's role as an economic engine for Charlotte. In 2023, nine of the ten busiest days in Uptown were tied to stadium events, generating an estimated $1.1 billion in regional economic impact.

Leaders argue that modernizing the stadium is essential to keeping Charlotte competitive for major sporting events, concerts, and international soccer matches.

Although it's hard to predict the exact economic impact the renovation will have on Charlotte, fans can expect the stadium to reflect the city's overall rapid growth.
